There was real shit in that show. Aliens dealing with human sexuality, the love triangle, the Zentradi agent that was put in a smaller body and made human for infiltration purposes only to find out that - whoops! - they have humanity now and it fucked them up, the human struggle to rebuild our ruined civilization...

Voltron was cool, but all it had really was ‘And I’ll form the head!’. No competition.
